Bulletin

Acts 2:42-47; 1 Peter 1:3-9; John 20: 19-31. Saint Luke describes the early Christian community, as they devoted themselves to prayer, the communal life…[and]...the breaking of bread. Peter’s Letter stresses the living hope that believers now have through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. In John’s Gospel, the resurrected Jesus appears to his disciples, saying, Peace be with you and showing them his wounds. He breathes on them and says, receive the Holy Spirit and grants them authority to forgive sins. Later, he convinces Thomas of the truth of the Resurrection.

Pope Francis in his own Words

VATICAN CITY, March 8 (Reuters) - Below are some memorable quotes from Pope Francis, who marks the 10th anniversary of his election as pontiff on March 13. The quotes are arranged according to subjects that have cropped up during his papacy, in chronological order within each theme.

THE ENVIRONMENT

"The Earth, our home, is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth ... The pace of consumption, waste and environmental change has so stretched the planet's capacity that our contemporary lifestyle, unsustainable as it is, can only precipitate catastrophes." From his first papal encyclical, a letter to the church, which was dedicated to the environment and published on June 18, 2015.

"A selfish and boundless thirst for power and material prosperity leads both to the misuse of available natural resources and to the exclusion of the weak and disadvantaged," comments to the United Nations in September 2015

"The ecological crisis and the large-scale destruction of biodiversity can threaten the very existence of the human species." Also to the United Nations in September 2015.

"God gave us a bountiful garden, but we have turned it into a polluted wasteland of debris, desolation and filth ... Climate change is also contributing to the heart-rending refugee crisis. The world’s poor, though least responsible for climate change, are most vulnerable and already suffering its impact," Sept. 1, 2016, World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation..

Saint John Paul II Pope

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday: “How much the world is in need of the mercy of God today! In every continent, from the depths of human suffering, a cry for mercy seems to rise. … In those places where there is less respect for life and human dignity, one needs the merciful love of God, in whose light we see the ineffable value of every single human being. Mercy is needed to ensure that every injustice may find its solution in the splendor of truth. So today, in this Sanctuary, I solemnly wish to entrust the world to Divine Mercy. I do so with the burning desire that the message of God’s merciful love, proclaimed here through Saint Faustina, may reach all the inhabitants of the earth and fill their hearts with hope. … May the binding promise of the Lord Jesus be fulfilled: from here has to come out “the spark that will prepare the world for his final coming.” –Saint Pope John Paul II, Homily in Lagiewniki, Poland, August 17, 2002 .
