Bulletin

Amos 8:4-7; 1 Timothy 2:1-8; Luke 16:1-13 or 16: 10-13. From the prophet Amos comes a warning to the people of the Northern Kingdom of Israel that God sees those who take advantage of or mistreat the poor and needy, and he will not forget a thing they have done. In Paul’s Letter to Timothy, he asks for prayers for those in authority—that they be pleasing to the Lord. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the dishonest steward, and says that a person must be trustworthy in matters big and small. For no one can serve both God and Mammon.

Domenica 25A Del Tempo Ordinario

Salesian Sister among three women appointed to high positions in the Vatican

yvonne

Sr. Yvonne Reungoat, F.M.A.

Continuing to open up new positions of responsibility for women in the Roman Curia, Pope Francis appointed three women as members of the Dicastery for Bishops in July. It is the first time ever women have been given this role.

Raffaella Petrini, F.S.E., has been the highest-ranking woman in the Vatican since Francis appointed her as secretary general of the Governerate of the Vatican City Statew in 2021. Sister Petrini, of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, is a former university professor and official at the Dicastery of the Evangelization of Peoples.

Yvonne Reungoat, F.M.A., holds degrees in history and geography and in 2008 was elected the first non-Italian superior general of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the women’s branch of the Salesians. In 2019, Pope Francis appointed her as one of the first seven women members of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

Maria Lia Zervino is the president of the World Union of Cathoolic Women’s Organizations and a member of the Consecrated Virgins “Servidoras.” which was founded in Buenos Aires. Francis has known her since he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires. Last year, she wrote an open letter to him to thank him for all he has done for the church since becoming pope, but also appealing to him to give more space and a greater role to women in the church.

These three dynamic women will join some 30 cardinals and bishops for regular meetings at the Vatican to select, vote upon, and present to the pope the names of the person they consider as the most suitable candidates for bishops in Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and several countries in Asia.

VOTE “NO” ON PROPOSITION 1: Proposition 1 is a worst-case scenario for abortion in California. It is an expensive and misleading ballot measure that allows unlimited late-term abortions — for any reason, at any time, even moments before birth, paid for by tax dollars. Prop 1 isn’t needed. Sadly, California already has some of the most permissive abortion laws in the nation that would remain in effect without the amendment, including our current limit on late-term abortions that are permitted only for the life and health of the mother. Prop 1 destroys this common-sense limit. California does not limit state spending on abortion, and with thousands more traveling from other states, the cost will be in the hundreds of millions. Don’t hand lawmakers a blank check to pay for abortions, and don’t let them make California an “abortion sanctuary.” To learn more, visit www.CAcatholic.org/Prop1
