Ezekiel 33:7-9; Romans 13:8-10; Matthew 18:15-20.  In the first reading, the Lord tells Ezekiel that he will be held responsible for the death of the wicked one if he does not speak out to dissuade [him] from his way. In the Letter to the Romans, paul writes that the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. In the Gospel, Jesus gives instructions for correcting one another, gives authority to bind and loose, and promises where two or three are gathered together in my midst, there am I in the midst of them.

 今天的三段讀經都和愛有關：聖保祿寫道：「除了彼此相愛外，你們不可再欠人什麼。」（讀經二）這是一項重大的債務。人人都有責任去償還。這也是一種義務，因為彼此相愛原是人性重要的一環，也是天主的誡命。愛人不單不損害別人還要關顧別人的好處，如果別人行為不當，要幫助他離開邪道，把天主的教導傳給他。（讀經一）

 福音更進一步，把勸告的責任推廣到每一個信徒身上，祇要看見弟兄們陷於罪惡，就有責任勸告。「如果你的兄弟犯了罪，要在你和他獨處的時候規勸他，如果他聽從你，你便賺得了你旳弟兄。」態度誠懇溫和，而且在私底下，不要把他犯錯的事傳到外面，以至損害他的名譽，這是不道德的行為。最後，耶穌說：「你們中若有兩個人在地上同心合意地祈求，無論求什麼，我的天父一定會為你實現。」因為同心合意是愛的象徵，天主是愛。而為弟兄們祈禱也是愛的表示。

From the Pastor’s Desk 

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, 

Every time we gather as a church community, we believe that Jesus is among us. If Jesus is here with us physically, how do we show him that we care for and love one another? All of the readings this Sunday call us to focus on the theme of loving God and loving our neighbor. Faith Catholic shares a great reflection on these readings.

“Our readings today remind us of an important truth, one which is found in the Book of Genesis, the very first book of the Bible: We are our “brother’s keeper” (Gen. 4:9). Behind this commandment to care about our brother or sister’s earthly and spiritual wellbeing is the God who desires his children to flourish in this life and to share his joy for all eternity. 

In the second reading, Saint Paul’s words are simple and yet profound: Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another. God is love, and he has commanded us to love our neighbor, to will their well-being, so to speak. This doesn’t sound that difficult – of course we wish our neighbor the best, why wouldn’t we? But what about when we see others living apart from God? How do we respond? 

The first reading and the Gospel make it clear that we should not sit idly by. God tells Ezekiel that he will be responsible for the wicked one’s death if he does not try to dissuade him from his wicked way. And in the Gospel Jesus gives specific instruction about how to correct someone who has sinned against us in person. Notice his words: Go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. In other words, don’t gossip or complain about the behavior to anyone else. Confront the person directly from a position of love. 

Is this easy? No. Call it tough love, accountability, fraternal correction, or perhaps “speaking the truth in love,” as Saint Paul advises in Ephesians (4:15). Our Catholic tradition even lists this action among the spiritual works of mercy, calling it “admonishing the sinner.” Whatever we call our efforts to help inform our brother or sister that their actions are leading them away from God, they must be motivated by mercy – by love. All these efforts have one aim: to win our brother or sister over, to bring them back into communion with God and with the Church. 

Jesus acknowledges that, at times, we will encounter situations where fraternal correction seems fruitless. People are not always ready to change. That’s where the Church can be a powerful intercessor. Jesus tells us that if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. In the end, only God can change hearts. But as the Church, we can join together in powerfully interceding for them, asking the Holy Spirit to move their hearts toward reconciliation. 

As we come to this Eucharist, let us come with gratitude that our God longs for the salvation of every human person. Let us give thanks that he has called us to play a small part in helping our brothers and sisters on their journey to heaven, and let us ask him for the grace to lovingly call one another to greater holiness.”

Eucharistic Adoration & Confession/ Anointing of the Sick: We have Adoration & Confession every Friday, following the 7:00 AM Mass. And on the first Friday of the month, we have the Anointing following the 7:00 AM Mass. 

玫瑰經 Chinese Apostolate First Sunday Rosary: The Apostolate meets every first Sunday of the month, following the 10:15 AM Mass, to pray the Rosary in the Don Bosco Room. 

Children & Youth Faith Formation: Growing in Faith, Living with Joy!  Children and youth in home, public, & private schools from Kindergarten through Grade 12 are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, and to deepen their relationship with Jesus and to become active members of the Catholic Church. Sessions begin in September and run through May. Students are required to attend Mass every Sunday at 8:45 AM, and classes follow from 9:45 –11:00 AM. Our approach is rooted in the Salesian charism, a joyful, welcoming, and family-like environment, directed by Sr. Maria Luong, FMA. Flyers are on the tables. 

School Golf Tournament! On September 28 at the Sonoma Golf Club, Saints Peter and Paul School will host their third annual golf tournament. The 18-hole tournament is the perfect chance to reconnect with classmates and make new connections with the Salesian Family. All proceeds from the event benefit the school’s scholarship fund! Madonna del Lume: On October 3-4 we celebrate the feast of Madonna del Lume, beloved of the people of Sicily and those of Sicilian ancestry the world over. There will be Mass at the Fisherman’s Chapel at 9:30 AM on October 3, followed by the Memorial Service under the Golden Gate Bridge. On Sunday, October 4,  Mass will be celebrated here at 11:45 AM,  followed by the procession to Fisherman’s Wharf and dinner at the San Francisco Athletic Club. COLUMBUS DAY Volunteers Needed! The 107th Annual Columbus Day Bazaar will be on October 10 & 11. This is the most fun event in North Beach, but it is a LOT of work. We need people to help set up and tear down and to help with shifts in the various booths. It’s a great way to meet others in the parish and all funds raised go to support the Church and School.
