Kings 3:5, 7-12; Romans 8:28-30; Matthew 13:44-52 or 13:44-46. God tells Solomon to ask for anything, and he asks for an understanding heart to lead his people. Saint Paul writes to the Romans that, all things work for good to those who love God. In the Gospel, Jesus uses three parables (buried treasure, pearl of great price, and a full fish net) to explain the kingdom of heaven.

今天耶穌繼續講天國的比喻，教訓人應有怎樣的智慧，去進入天國。祂把天國比作「藏在地裏的珍寶」，人發現了，為擁有它，變賣一切去得到它。又像一個尋找寶珠的商人，找到真正的珠寶，也變賣一切，買了它。這兩個比喻，說明得到恩寵有時是無意之間，一個訊息，使他突然明白了，皈依天主。也有人千辛萬苦去鑽研，終於明白了天主的聖道，於是諴心地相信，以得到聖道為至寶。其實天主的恩寵離我們很近，但我們卻沒有發現它，即使發現了，也不看重它，以為比起金錢、名譽、地位和享受，它不算是什麼而放棄它，又有些人以為有的是時間，等享受夠了，才去領取，而沒有想到生命無常，迅息即逝，機會不再。十分可惜。 

人世間有許多知識、物質、財富，就像漁人撒網一樣，網一拉上，千種百樣的東西都出現，但有智慧的人，祇選能持久，適合永生之用的 ，其餘的通通不取。因為沒有什麼比永生更重要。 

From the Pastor’s Desk 

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, 

     In ancient times, people often hid their treasure by burying it underground. In modern times, people sometimes hide their treasure inside a house using a safe. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us about a hidden treasure buried in a field. Jesus also tells another parable about a merchant who finds a valuable pearl and quickly sells everything he has to purchase it. Both parables imply that finding the kingdom of heaven is like discovering a treasure box or a precious pearl. We are called to give up our own possessions and respond to God’s word immediately. 

    The first parable tells us about a man working in a field who accidentally discovers a treasure. He hides it again, goes and sells everything he has, and buys that field. He was not just trying to purchase the treasure he discovered, but the entire field. He decided quickly to purchase the field without bargaining over the price. He found the true treasure of God's presence and did not want to miss it. 

    The second parable describes a merchant who also decides quickly to buy the fine pearl. Since a single pearl costs all of his possessions, we may think this man is insane. Not at all; he finds the pearl of God’s kingdom and does not want to let it slip away. 

    Jesus tells us these parables about the kingdom of heaven to show us that he is the true treasure and the fine pearl. Everyone who listens to him and puts his word into practice finds this treasure. Jesus provides this guidance when he preaches the Beatitudes on the Mount. God wants us to respond to his teaching urgently because he offers this hidden treasure freely to everyone. Anyone who delays receiving it may miss the chance, and that opportunity may not return. This reminds us that we need to respond now and do not wait until the end of time. 

    As we gather to celebrate this Eucharist, let us ask Jesus to help us recognize his presence among us as our ultimate treasure and fine pearl. May he guide us to discern and choose to follow him, obeying his commandments each day of our lives.

Second Collection: Today we have a second collection for the maintenance fund. 

ATTENTION YOUNG MARRIED COUPLES! We are excited to invite you to the third St. Peter & Paul's Young Married Couples Community Group! Our gathering will be in the Rectory on Monday, July 27, from 6:30–8:00 PM, with complimentary parking available in the church garage. This new group is designed for married couples in the Bay Area who have been married for less than 10 years and are looking to build friendships, grow in faith, and connect with other couples in a welcoming community. Drinks and light bites will be provided, and feel free to bring something to share if you'd like. 

Who is the Man of the Shroud? On July 31 at 6:30 PM, at St. Monica's Church, 470 24th Avenue, Fr. Andrew Dalton, LC, will present “Who is the Man of the Shroud?”  All are invited to a 90-minute presentation on the Shroud of Turin followed with a traveling exhibit featuring life-size replicas of artifacts related to the Shroud and the Passion. Tickets are $10 per person.. Drinks and Snacks will be available for purchase after the presentation, with proceeds benefiting the Star of the Sea and St. Monica Young Adult Ministry. Eucharistic Adoration & Confession/ Anointing of the Sick: We have Adoration & Confession every Friday, following the 7:00 AM Mass. And on the first Friday of the month we have the Anointing following the 7:00 AM Mass. 

玫瑰經 Chinese Apostolate First Sunday Rosary: The Apostolate meets every first Sunday of the month, following the 10:15 AM Mass, to pray the Rosary in the Don Bosco Room. 

National Night Out August 4! Meet the SFPD, fight crime, and have fun! Once again, are proud to host National Night Out on August 4 from 5:00-7:30 PM, on Filbert St., in front of the Church. Join the good officers from SFPD's Central Station and other first ressponders neighbors, and community organizations. Meet your police officers and enjoy music, cookouts, contests, youth events, and more.
