July 5, 2026 Online Bulletin

Zechariah 9:9-10; Romans 8:9, 11-13; Matthew 11:25-30. Zechariah tells Jerusalem to rejoice, for their king shall come to them “...riding...on a colt, proclaiming a message of peace to the nations. Saint Paul instructs the Romans that whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. In the Gospel, Jesus gives praise to the Father for what he has revealed to the little ones.

Domenica 14A Del Tempo Ordinario

From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This weekend our nation celebrated its 250th anniversary. We give thanks to the Lord for the past, and for the future growth of this country, America. Recall that in school, we recite the United States Pledge of Allegiance: "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." It is a blessing that our nation entrusts itself to God for guidance, justice, and help with the difficulties and challenges we have faced over the last two and a half centuries.

Today’s Gospel message reminds us that Jesus invites everyone to entrust and share with Him, just as He shares with us: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." (Matthew 11: 25-30)

Jesus treats us as a friend and spiritual guide. When we are discouraged and troubled, it is a grace to have a reliable friend like Jesus to turn to and pour our hearts out to. For instance, when we go to confession, we honestly beg the God of mercy and love to forgive all of our sins. I hope you have a good friend whom you can turn to for comfort; someone who listens to your problems and accompanies you as you resolve them. What kind of friend would that be? Someone who listens, someone gentle, and someone who always has time for you. Jesus offers Himself to us today as exactly that kind of understanding, gentle, and humble friend, who gives us peace and accompanies us to share the burdens of our daily lives.

Let us not hesitate to encounter Jesus through the Eucharist and Holy Communion. Let us ask Him to help us overcome every burden.

May God bless America. Happy 4th of July!

Fr. Tho Bui

July, the Month of the Precious Blood of Jesus

Holy Mother Church gives each month a liturgical significance. In the month of July the church asks us to foster our devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus. This devotion began at the foot of the cross with the Blessed Mother and continued throughout the early church into the current day.

The devotion is actually quite ancient…The early fathers and saints of the church spoke often of the power of the blood of Our Lord. St Peter refers to the “precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot” (1 Pet 1:19) as our redemption from sin. In 96 AD, St Pope Clement advised everyone to “fix our thoughts on the blood of Christ; and reflect how precious that blood is in God’s eyes, inasmuch as its outpouring for our salvation has opened the grace of repentance to all mankind.”

Medieval saints were also devoted to the Precious Blood, like St Catherine of Siena (+1380). She understood the power it possesses and would pray for the conversion of sinners and liberation of the poor souls in purgatory, just as Our Lord has asked of us many times.

It’s not a thing of the past—contemporary popes have also loved this devotion...St. Pope John XXIII desired that “Christians meditate on it more fervently” and “savor its fruits more frequently in sacramental communion.” St Pope John Paull II encouraged us to “be witnesses of that communion which Christ brought about through the gift of his blood.” [and] as recently as 2018 Pope Francis encouraged the devotion since the “blood of Christ is the fount of salvation for the world.”

“For Don Bosco, the Most Precious Blood is the price of redemption, the source of forgiveness, the heart of the Mass, the foundation of Confession and the profound motive of his educational passion. Every young person is infinitely valuable because they have been redeemed by the Blood of Christ. In this light, the “Da mihi animas” also takes on an even stronger meaning: saving souls means cooperating in the redemptive work of Jesus, who gave his all, down to the last drop of blood, to lead man back to God.” -Salesian Bulletin Online
