Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

Bulletin
Acts 10:34a, 37-43; Colossians 3:1-4 or 1 Corinthians 5:6b-8; John 20: 1-9. The first reading tells of how Peter, after encountering the risen Lord Jesus and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, is enabled to boldly preach the Gospel message. The second reading reminds us that our lives can be transformed by opening ourselves to the power of the risen Lord Jesus. The Gospel recounts Mary Magdalene going to the tomb of Jesus only to find it empty.
Domenica Di Pasqua
From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Today we celebrate Easter Sunday. It is the core of our faith that Jesus died and was resurrected from death. The Gospel describes how the two disciples, Peter and John, run to the tomb to visit Jesus, and Mary Magdalene also runs to the tomb ahead of the two disciples. Why do they all rush to the tomb on the third day? In Jewish tradition, the most intense morning is on the third day. Mary Magdalene finds the tomb empty. John arrives first, looks in. Then Peter looks in. They also find the empty tomb. Where is the body of Jesus? Mary Magdalene does not know what happened. Peter remembers Jesus told his disciples that he would die and be resurrected. Peter is not sure, but it is a fact he sees the tomb is empty. He hopes that it is true that Jesus has been raised as he told his disciples. John goes inside the tomb and, as the Gospel says, “John saw and believed.” John 20:8-9.
We truly believe that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. We believe that Jesus conquered death as we profess our faith, “For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day.” It is the essence of our faith. What if Jesus had not risen from the dead, would not our faith would be baseless? We would live in the darkness (the evil side). Perhaps the devil will laugh at us that they win. They tell us: there will be no eternal life. Since there is no hope, be selfish, no need for charitable works or to care for others. Once we die, it is not necessary to have any prayers or funeral Mass. But it is true that Christ is resurrected and dispelled the darkness, and shines his light to the world. As the children of light and the followers of Christ, we are called to share Christ’s light with our broken world by living a Christian life as Christ wants us to love God, and love one another.
Our parish community does share Christ’s light to others. Evidently, the catechumens and candidate were touched by experiencing our church community’s gathering in prayer and welcoming. On Easter Vigil we welcomed three new members and two candidates who were accepted into our church community. In addition, every Friday during Lent, each group in our parish took turns leading the stations of the cross and afterwards serving a soup supper. Also, Saints Peter and Paul school’s students reflected on the stations of the cross each Friday. It is a way of living Christ’s light among us through these great experiences, that we meditate on the passion of Christ and bond together as a community.
May the risen Christ shine upon us with concrete faith and help us to live our truthful Christian life. I hope that each of us will continue to have strong faith and share Christ’s light to others throughout this Easter and beyond. Let us shout with joy, “Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!”
Have a blessed Easter!
